CSI Investigation
NEW PROGRAM! Ever wanted to become a crime scene investigator? Now is your chance! In partnership with the Dickinson Police Department, we'll talk about difference aspects of CSI such as collecting evidence, dusting for fingerprints, and more!

Creative Connection
NEW PROGRAM! Do you like building with your hands? If yes, this is the perfect class for you! During our four days together, we'll put together two different remote control kits. At the end of the session, you can take your builds home with you.

T-Ball
Intro to T-Ball (4 yr old)
Learn the fundamentals of base running, catching and throwing (without gloves) and proper batting stance/grip. No glove required. REQUIREMENTS:- Fee is $12
- Must be age 4 by last day of program.

T-Ball (5-6 yr old)
Players ages 5-6 will be introduced to the basic skills of throwing, catching, hitting, and running the bases. Participants will hit off the batting tee for entire program. REQUIREMENTS:- Fee is $40

Tennis Lessons (Summer)
In this introductory program, participants will experience the basic fundamental skills associated with the game of tennis in a fun, non-competitive environment.

NEW PROGRAM! Over the course of the month, we will spend two weeks covering how to play soccer and two weeks on how to play kickball through a variety of drills and games.

Play for the Tots

Summer Art
Welcome to Summer Art where participants will use a wide range of supplies to create their own masterpiece. There will be unique goals and projects introduced each week. In this fun program, students will gain essential skills to create projects using their own creative expression. STRONGkids
Dickinson Parks & Recreation has partnered with the Best Friends Mentoring Program to offer a FREE program that will focus on goal setting, building confidence & promoting a healthy lifestyle. This program will include skill-building opportunities, physical activities, and small group mentoring.
Requirements:
- Snacks will be provided.
- Please wear tennis shoes and comfortable active clothing.
- Bring a water bottle.
- Program capacity will be determined by the number of volunteer coaches.

Pickleball Dinkers Round Robin Nights
Join us for our round robin tournaments to see if you have what it takes to the top player on the court. In double's round robin fashion, participants will play a game to 15 or in 8 minutes. At the end of each game, your individual scores will be added up. The highest scoring individual will be the top player for the night.
Session will be held the first and third Mondays beginning Jan. 15. Register for one night or more - you choose which dates you plan on attending. Sessions are limited - please register early!

Pickleball Beginner Lessons
Join us for an introductory class to learn how to play Pickleball. This is the perfect class for you if you’ve always wanted to learn how to play or if you recently started playing. We’ll teach you how to keep score, serve and where to position yourself on the court. We provide the paddles and balls, we just need you!

Little Artists
In this class children ages 2-5 will be making a holiday themed craft. Participants will be able to work on their sensory and fine motor skills while getting messy! We provide the materials, the fun and the clean up!
Instructions:

- February - We want to help your little artist celebrate Valentine's Day by making a Valentine's card, painting a headband and making a heart caterpillar.
- March - It's your lucky day! Come and make a rainbow pot, Leprechaun hat with popsicles and a Leprechaun head painting.
- April - April showers bring May flowers! We'll work with our little one on cloud and rain artwork, tulip painting and also painting rocks.

Lap Swim Club

Little Cooks
The only class that you can play with your food! Food Art is a fun way to try new foods and be creative with snacks for your littles.
INSTRUCTIONS:

- May 14 | This month, we're bringing a world of whimsy and imagination with animal inspired food art. Make adorable creatures that are as delightful to create as they are to eat. From playful Sheep, to Butterflies that flutter on your taste buds, to Fish and a Crab to explore even more creativity. This is where food meets adventure!

Lazy River 5Day 5K
It's a Lazy River 5K in 5 Days! Join us for a challenging self-paced 5K in our lazy river, either inside WRCC or outside at the outdoor pool. Instead of running or walking on pavement to complete a 5K this summer, enjoy the refreshing experience of being in the pool. Walk backwards, forwards, against or with the current and complete your water walking 5K in 5 days or less.
Water walking shoes are highly recommended.

Workout at your own pace with 40 days to reach your goal!
Choose your division below and register for the division you would like to compete in, and set your own pace. We will rely on the honor system for all competitors when recording their mileage totals. Reach your goal by the end of the event and receive a t-shirt.

Safety City
Dickinson Parks and Recreation offers a comprehensive, award winning safety education program sponsored in part by the Kiwanis Club. Children will practice "real life" safety situations in a miniature "city". They will have fun learning about safety in the following areas: Pedestrian and bicycle safety, railroad crossings, animal safety, electrical safety, school bus safety, stranger danger, seat belts, pool safety, farm safety as well as calling 911 and what to do in an emergency situation. Special guests from the community will make appearances to demonstrate the safety topics addressed each day.

Play Park
Dickinson Parks and Recreation along with the Optimist Club gives children the opportunity to have a structured fun filled morning at the park. Weekly themes and activities are planned by the staff providing for fun times all summer long. Enjoy free time on the play equipment, crafts, songs, and games are all part of this supervised Play Park program. Children must bring a water bottle and snack. Tennis shoes and comfortable clothing adaptable for weather is required.

Lifeguard Certification Courses
We will be conducting Lifeguard Certification, Re-Certification, and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Courses on an as-needed basis. There will typically be one every month or every other month. If you would like to inquire about becoming a lifeguard or taking the courses please contact the Aquatics Facility Supervisor at 701-456-2074. See upcoming courses below.
LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION COURSE
The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. - Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of course.
- Complete a Swim-Treat-Swim Sequence
- Jump into the deep water from the side, totally submerge, recover to the surface and swim 150 yards.
- After swimming 150 yards, maintain position at the surface of the water without support for 2 minutes by treading
- After maintaining position at the surface for 2 minutes, swim 50 more yards.
- Complete a times event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
- Surface dive, feet first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
- Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so you are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance underwater. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Notes for the Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence:

- While swimming, you must swim continuously, keeping your face in the water AND demonstrating good breath control.
- You may use the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Swimming on the back or side is not permitted.

LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTOR TRAINING
The Lifeguard Instructor Course trains instructor candidates how to teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Lifeguarding, and Aquatic Attraction Lifeguarding, along with other optional modules. DATE: No courses currently scheduled TIMES: Friday 4-9 pm; Saturday-Sunday 8 am-8 pm COST: $250 (reimbursement will be offered to those hired with WRCC) CERTIFICATION: American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED with Waterpark Lifeguarding Module REGISTRATION: Register Online or call 701-456-2074 for more information. PREREQUISITES:-
- Must be at least 17 years old.
- Possess a current American Red Cross certification in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED
- Complete the online Lifeguard Instructor course through the ARC learning center before the first day of class. An email will be sent with instructions after registration.
- Pass two rescue skill scenarios that test lifeguarding and CPR (on the first day of class)
WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTION COURSE (WSI)
The purpose of this instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach courses and presentations in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program including Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim, Adult Swim, Private Lessons, Water Safety Courses (including Safety Training for Swim Coaches) and Water Safety Presentations. 2024 DATES:- TBA
- Be at least 16 years old on or before the last day of the Instructor Course
- Demonstrate the ability to perform the following swimming skills: Swim the following strokes consistent with the American Red Cross Level 4 standards – Front Crawl – 25 yards; Back Crawl – 25 yards; Breaststroke – 25 yards; Elementary Backstroke – 25 yards; Sidestroke – 25 yards; Butterfly – 15 yards
- Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling)
- Tread water for 1 minute
LIFEGUARD RE-CERTIFICATION COURSE
This course is designed to update your skills while also extending your certification for another two years. There are also courses for those whose certifications are still valid (or within 30 days of expiration) which allow them to continue working without having a lapse in certification. Sports & Fitness Mixer
Dickinson Parks and Recreation wants to help keep your child active and healthy in this fun three week program! We will introduce your child to a variety of activities from sports, to active games, fitness activities and nutrition education. Each class there will be a different activity focus. Learn how to be a team player while building new athletic skills. (Each session will have different activities)
REQUIREMENTS:

Kids Cooking Class
The Kids Cooking Class is designed to teach your children how to be independent in the kitchen while learning basic cooking skills and kitchen safety. Food made in class will be able to be brought home when finished.

Facility Orientation Class
The purpose of this 30-minute course is to provide direction in safety, technique, and gym etiquette to youth members, along with anyone interested in learning more about the fitness equipment. Participants will learn how to properly use our cardio and strength machines and equipment from one of our certified personal trainers. Youth ages 12-13 will be able to use the fitness equipment without parental supervision after the successful completion of this class.

Enjoy the Indoor Golf Simulator at the West River Community Center (WRCC), while keeping your golf swing in shape all year long by participating in this recreational league. 2-person teams compete in friendly match play golf competition. Winter Self-Paced Triathlon
Register for the division you would like to compete in, and set your own pace. You have up to 40 days to reach your personal goals. Activity miles may be completed at WRCC or outdoors. We will rely on the honor system for all competitors when recording their mileage totals. Reach your goal by the end of the event and receive a t-shirt.

- Ultra Ironman – 4.8 mile swim, 52.4 mile run/walk, 224 mile bike
- Ironman – 2.4 mile swim, 26.2 mile run/walk, 112 mile bike
- Tinman – 1.25 mile swim, 13.1 mile run/walk, 56 mile bike
- Olympic – 1 mile swim, 6.2 mile run/walk, 24.8 mile bike
- Sprint – 750 meter swim, 3.1 mile run/walk, 12.4 mile bike
- Keep track of your totals and turn in your LOG SHEET on or before February 16th.
