Creative Lab

Creative Lab is a series of free art workshops for high school students in Region 8 of North Dakota, designed to provide accessible creative experiences for youth who may not normally have opportunities to participate in art programs. Program is funded through the Walmart Foundation (Region 8 Youth Initiative: Moonshot Taskforce)

Each workshop is designed as a stand-alone class, allowing students to attend any session without feeling behind. At the same time, the classes are linked through the theme:

“How Ideas Become Art.”

Students will explore observation, abstraction, symbolism, experimentation, and collaboration through hands-on projects that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and self-expression.

The program is designed to be welcoming for students of all skill levels, especially those who may not consider themselves “artistic.”

Program Structure

5 Workshops | 2 hours each. Each session follows a consistent format:

  • Introduction and inspiration discussion
    • Creative warm-up activity
    • Guided art project
    • Group share and reflection

Students leave each class with a completed artwork.

REGISTRATION: The art classes are 5 standalone workshops, which happen to progress with each class. Select the Book Now button to register for all 5, or individually.

WORKSHOP 4: Creative Experiments - Unusual Materials - July 29 (5:30-7:30 pm)

WORKSHOP 5: Community Art - Collaborative Project - August 5 (2:00-4:00 pm)

Creative Connection

Do you enjoy building with your hands? If so, this is the perfect class for you! Over the course of four days, we’ll work together to assemble different wooden stem kits. At the end of the session, you’ll get to take home your completed builds! REQUIREMENTS:
