Bandshell Concert | RubyAnn

BAND: RubyAnn
GENRE: Folk/Indie
BIOGRAPHY:
RubyAnn writes folk songs about real-life moments, usually centered on messages of hope and resilience. Raised in the “middle of everywhere” between Bismarck, N.D. and Pierre, S.D., she was trained in classical piano and four-part vocal harmony from a young age and immersed in a culture of oral and local history. At age 27, she hit a mid-life crisis and moved to the Scottish Highlands to study accordion for a year, and found herself in the musical bootcamp of the independent and traditional music scenes. Studying under the likes of Alasdair Murray and Rachel Walker gave her foundational performance skills and a space to process – through song – some of life’s toughest challenges. Now, RubyAnn works as a journalist documenting southwest North Dakota, and as an author sharing her award-winning novels and children’s fiction.
If you want a “nice, quiet evening of familiar music,” RubyAnn’s gigs probably aren’t for you. If you want to hear lyrics that paint the world in a way you’ve never quite seen it before, though, alongside melodies reminiscent of Joy Williams and Gillian Welch; show up early, and stay for an encore.
